We would like to welcome new head coach, Cory Abraham, to Hikurangi RFC.
Cory will be coaching our premier team for the 2022 season and brings some great coaching skills to the club. Having previously coached Horahora U14 & U16, Whangarei Reps U15, Whangarei Bear U13, Northland U15, U16 & U18, Mangakahia Senior 2020 and 2021, he is well versed in developing player skills, game planning and delivering training sessions. He also knows the club well and played for Hikurangi RFC for 3 years.
We caught up with Cory to find out more about him and what he plans to bring to the team at Hikurangi RFC.
When did you first get into coaching rugby?
2014, with two good mentors and mates of mine.
What do you enjoy about rugby?
Helping the next generation see their potential and seeing the experienced players mentor the young fellas. I love the game, it's taught me a lot in regards to team and personal values/life skills.
What do you hope to achieve this year at Hikurangi RFC?
To be competitive and improve week-in week-out but ultimately to create a culture where players feel supported and they feel part of the Hikurangi RFC family.
What do you get up to in your spare time?
I spend as much time as I can with my wife and kids, I'm a big family man.
Who is your favourite rugby player of all time?
I have two all time favourite rugby players, Keven Mealamu and Richie McCaw for the values they have shown on and off the field e.g. humble, respect, work ethic and leadership.
If you had to choose one thing to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Seafood
We look forward to bringing on the next season with Cory leading our team!
